Summary
  • Ferrari renamed its EV Ferrari Luce, showing interior components at Transamerica building
  • Jony Ive and LoveFrom led a glass and machined aluminum focused cabin design
  • Corning supplied over 40 glass parts and Samsung provided OLED displays
  • A movable center console and tactile controls aim to reduce screen depth

The ferrari luce interior was unveiled by Ferrari and LoveFrom at San Francisco's Transamerica building, where the company displayed component pieces rather than a finished cabin.

Ferrari Chief Executive Benedetto Vigna said the car is now officially called Ferrari Luce, replacing the earlier nickname Elettrica, and the firm emphasized other core qualities beyond electrification.

LoveFrom cofounder Jony Ive led the design, contrasting his automotive work with his 27 years at Apple and describing careful attention to machined aluminum buttons developed over five years.

The exhibit presented a steering wheel, binnacle, center-dash display, center console, and a front seat that journalists were not allowed to sit in, while Ferrari confirmed the production Luce will include cup holders.

Materials and components play a central role, with Corning supplying more than 40 glass parts including buttons, screens, and the center console casing, after months of development and crash testing.

Samsung provides the OLED displays, which appear as convex circular gauges behind magnifying lenses, and select analog elements remain, such as aluminum and polycarbonate needles for the speedometer.

The steering wheel keeps Ferrari's three spoke silhouette with a nearly circular shape and a flattened bottom, wrapped in leather and fitted with clicky aluminum controls near the driver’s fingers.

A glass key fob with a yellow E Ink background snaps into the center console and animates the cabin, while the gear shifter contains laser-blasted holes in the glass to diffuse light.

Design Approach And Comparisons

Ive described a tactile approach that limits interaction to aluminum, glass, and leather, and he said physical controls were prioritized so drivers need not dive through touchscreen layers.

The center console screen is mounted on a ball and socket joint so passengers can operate it, and an aluminum bar serves as a palm rest and handle to reposition the panel.

Reporters noted visual echoes of Apple products, and one article observed the Luce resembles elements of Apple's Project Titan design DNA that did not reach production.

Journalists saw disassembled components arranged like an exhibition, and at LoveFrom's headquarters Marc Newson joined Ive and Ferrari representatives for follow up discussions.

Ferrari representatives declined to show a stereo system, glovebox, floor mats, or the rear seating in detail, and the Luce's four leather-wrapped seats contrast with recent Ferrari four-seat designs.
