The tesla model 3 is used as a point of comparison after Xiaomi unveiled its new-generation SU7 sedan, which the company bills as a "driver's car for a new era." The SU7 arrives in three variants, Standard, Pro, and Max, and Xiaomi claims CLTC ranges of 720km for the Standard, 902km for the Pro, and 835km for the Max.

Xiaomi described the SU7 with a refreshed exterior that keeps waterdrop-style headlamps and halo taillights while adding a revamped front grille, larger cooling ducts, and integrated 4D millimetre-wave radar. Buyers can choose from nine exterior colours and six wheel designs. A notable practical addition is a 105-litre electric front trunk that supports multiple access methods.

The company said the cabin received a luxury-focused overhaul, with soft-touch materials across nearly all contact surfaces and Nappa leather upholstery. The driver gets an 18-way power-adjustable seat, while the front passenger seat offers a zero-gravity recline and a massage function. Rear passengers gain improved cushioning, increased recline and redesigned headrests.

Technically, Xiaomi equips the SU7 with its HyperEngine V6s Plus motor, which the company says can rev to 22,000rpm. The performance Max variant is claimed to sprint from 0-100km/h in three seconds and reach a top speed of 265km/h. Battery structure uses cell-to-body integration for higher energy density and efficiency.

Xiaomi also highlighted chassis and driver assistance upgrades. The new Smart Chassis 2.0 brings double wishbone front suspension and a five-link rear setup, plus adaptive air suspension and continuous damper control. Sensor hardware includes LiDAR, 4D radar, high-definition cameras and ultrasonic sensors, and the car supports assisted driving features such as voice-controlled lane changes and advanced parking assistance.

British Presenter Flags Social Stigma And Practical Drawbacks Around Tesla Ownership

James May, who uses a Tesla Model 3 Highland Long Range as his everyday commuter, praised the car as quiet, polite, discreet and quick, while also listing several dislikes on his Planet Gin YouTube channel. He told viewers that the worst aspect is the association between the vehicle and Elon Musk, noting people assume buying a Tesla means supporting Musk and his politics. May said he buys the car to support the engineers who built it rather than the CEO.

May criticised Tesla's hyper-minimalist interior and the reliance on the central touchscreen for basic controls. He described the need to use menus to adjust mirrors or the steering column and joked about opening the glovebox only via the touchscreen. He also challenged the notion that charging equals a quick pit stop, timing a petrol fill of a Porsche 911 at three and a half minutes including payment, and saying that charging a Tesla cannot be done in that time even on a Supercharger.
