FDA Straus Ice Cream Recall was announced after Straus Family Creamery voluntarily removed select organic ice cream pints and quarts because they may contain metal foreign material.
The company said the recall covers a limited number of production runs and specific flavor and size combinations, and that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has been notified.
No injuries related to the potential contamination have been reported, and Straus said it is working with retailers to remove affected products from store shelves.
Distribution Details And Consumer Guidance
The recalled flavors listed by the company include Vanilla Bean in pint containers, Strawberry in pint and quart containers, Cookie Dough in pint containers, Dutch Chocolate in quart containers, and Mint Chip in pint containers.
Consumers can identify affected products by best by information printed on the bottom of containers and by UPC codes printed on packaging.
Published product information also lists UPCs for affected items including 7-84830-10030-6 for Vanilla Bean pints, 7-84830-10097-9 for Strawberry quarts, 7-84830-10095-5 for Strawberry pints, 7-84830-10104-4 for Cookie Dough pints, 7-84830-10012-2 for Dutch Chocolate quarts, and 7-84830-10050-4 for Mint Chip pints.
Straus said the ice cream was distributed to retailers in 17 states, and press accounts named states that included California, Oregon, Texas, Washington, Connecticut, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
The company noted its ice creams have been sold at Whole Foods Markets and at some ShopRite stores, Kings Food Markets and Fresh Markets in Connecticut, according to its store locator information.
Consumers were urged not to eat the recalled ice cream and not to return it to stores, and to discard any affected containers.
