Summary
  • Target confirmed all stores will be closed on Easter
  • Walmart is open and most stores list 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Costco and Sam's Club warehouses will be closed
  • Pharmacies, groceries and restaurants show varied, location dependent hours

Target will be closed on Easter, the company confirmed to USA TODAY, joining a group of major retailers that will not operate on the holiday.

Retailers that USA TODAY and other roundups list as closed include Costco and Sam's Club warehouses, Macy's, T.J. Maxx and other TJX banners, Kohl's and Lowe's, with some mall and department locations also not opening.

By contrast, several large chains are keeping doors open. Walmart is operating regular hours, and the company notes most stores run from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Many pharmacies and convenience outlets will also be available, though hours vary by location.

What Is Open And How Hours Differ

Grocery and club decisions vary across brands. The Kroger family of stores, Trader Joe's, Whole Foods and many regional banners are listed as open, while Costco, Sam's Club, Aldi and Publix are among those closed, according to the compiled reporting.

Big-box and specialty retailers show mixed schedules. Home Depot is reporting an 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. window in its listings, BJ's Wholesale is open with reported hours of 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and IKEA locations will close earlier than usual at 6 p.m. Other chains like Ace Hardware and independently owned stores advise customers to call local locations.

Pharmacy chains reflect similar variation. CVS locations are largely open but may reduce hours and recommend calling ahead, while Walgreens said store and pharmacy hours will follow regular Sunday business hours, with local differences expected.

Restaurants also differ. USA TODAY's listing names national quick service and casual chains that will be open, including McDonald's, Starbucks, Dunkin', Cracker Barrel, Olive Garden and IHOP, among others. A smaller set, including Chick-fil-A, Chipotle and Raising Cane's, is noted as closed.

Postal and shipping services will adjust. The U.S. Postal Service will not conduct regular retail transactions or standard residential and business deliveries on the holiday, and UPS and FedEx pickup and delivery services will not run, as reported in the roundups.
