Airport officials say American Airlines plans to restore commercial service to Naples, bringing Naples to Charlotte flights starting in December as an experiment, after years without scheduled carriers and amid persistent local opposition to expanded operations.
The Naples facility operates under a voluntary 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. curfew and a noise complaint hotline, and opponents raise concerns about flight paths, soot, safety, traffic volume, aircraft over schools and compatibility with the area’s residential character, as reported in coverage of the proposal.
Florida legislation that took effect April 6, 2026 changed the Naples Airport Authority board from city appointment to Collier County voter election, a shift expected to make resuming service easier and which the city council disputes, according to the reporting.
A Naples Airport Authority conflict assessment meeting is scheduled for May 26, 2026 to examine whether city zoning over airport uses is preempted by federal law and whether the city can terminate or deem unenforceable the airport lease without FAA approval.
Enilria said the plan calls for three daily Embraer E‑170 aircraft, a choice that surprised the reporter, who had expected Bombardier CR7s, and who noted E‑170 typical maximum takeoff weights range around 79,000 to 85,000 pounds but type certificate data exists for a 74,957 pound option.
The airport publishes a 75,000 pound operating limit and says aircraft exceeding that weight are prohibited unless paperwork is amended and a placard limits the operating weight, a restriction the reporter said may face enforceability questions under the newly constituted authority.
Historically, American pulled Miami Eagle flights in late 2001, US Airways Express ended Tampa service in 2003, Delta Connection served Atlanta from 2004 to 2007, Elite Airways tried service from October 2015 to March 2017, and JSX operates seasonal winter charters from Westchester.
Updated VFR Routes For Boeing Field Aim To Manage World Cup Traffic
King County International Airport Boeing Field has published new visual arrival and departure routes in a PDF dated May 13, 2026 to prepare for increased traffic tied to six World Cup matches in Seattle from June 15 to July 6, as reported.
Airport spokesperson Cameron Satterfield said the FAA developed the procedures after months of outreach with pilots and stakeholders and coordination with Seattle‑Tacoma International Airport and Renton Municipal Airport, with goals of improving safety and mitigating noise.
The procedures cover north and south flow and use landmarks, such as the Tukwila Family Fun Center, to guide pilots while keeping them out of the Seattle Class B airspace and the Class D airspace of nearby airports.
KBFI lists two parallel runways, 14R/32L at 10,007 by 200 feet and 14L/32R at 3,709 by 100 feet, and two tower frequencies, 120.6 and 118.30, and presents five arrivals named Vashon, Cougar, 520, Blake and Valley, with the Valley arrival drawing the most discussion.
The Valley arrival asks pilots to use visual cues such as the Ikea building and to remain below 1,600 feet to avoid the Class B shelf, while seven departures include Dawgs, Alki, Blake, Rainier Beach, Sammamish, Vashon and Mountain, each with specific routing and cautions.
Examples include the Dawgs departure routing aircraft over Interstate 90 on a right crosswind, and the Vashon departure that keeps aircraft below SeaTac Class B by climbing to 700 feet msl then turning over the Duwamish River toward Vashon Island, with warnings to avoid the Seattle VA Medical Center and to watch for floatplane activity.
The VFR procedures are available on the KBFI website under the pilot information tab in Additional Resources and in the downloadable PDF titled bfi‑vfr‑routes‑final‑20260513.
