Dominican Republic travel has been disrupted as JetBlue reported mass cancellations and delays amid a winter storm affecting major hubs and international routes, according to FlightAware and affected airports.

FlightAware and affected airports recorded 447 JetBlue cancellations, representing 44 percent of scheduled operations, and 212 delayed flights, equal to 18 percent of all flights.

The disruptions concentrated at John F Kennedy International Airport, Boston Logan International Airport, and Fort Lauderdale International Airport, and affected international links to San Juan Puerto Rico, Orlando Florida, and Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic.

The article said blizzard warnings drove the outage, with heavy wet snow, winds gusting up to 70 miles per hour, and more than 35 million people along the East Coast affected, complicating airport, highway, and rail operations.

Airport ground procedures also slowed operations, as de icing and runway snow removal added to delays and cancellations, and several JetBlue routes were rerouted or cancelled, stranding passengers across the US, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic.

Passengers were advised to check rebooking options on the airline website or app, consider alternate carriers or nearby airports, monitor real time flight updates, and inquire about refunds or travel vouchers, as noted in the report.

DATE 2026 Returns To Punta Cana

The Asociación de Hoteles y Turismo de la República Dominicana announced that the Dominican Annual Tourism Exchange will convene April 22 to 24 at the Barceló Bávaro Convention Center in Punta Cana, the association said.

Organizers described DATE 2026 as the country’s premier tourism trade show, linking Dominican hotels, tour operators, and destination companies with international buyers through scheduled appointments and structured business rounds.

Javier Tejada, first vice president of Asonahores, stressed the need to protect the sector’s supporting framework and called attention to ongoing challenges including land use regulation, solid waste management, and electricity supply.

Lendor, speaking for the organizing association, highlighted record tourist arrival figures and positioned DATE as a platform that generates bookings, long term contracts, and investment across traditional and specialized segments.

DATE 2026 will promote diversification into cultural, adventure, religious, sports, and meetings related tourism, introduce a new graphic identity, retain a digital appointment platform, and expand access for small and medium sized enterprises.

The event has backing from the Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism and private partners including Barceló Bávaro Grand Resort, Coco Bongo, and Meliá Hotels International, underscoring public private collaboration.
