Police responded to an active shooter report at Loring Tower after multiple people were shot, authorities said, and officers found several victims inside the building.
Minneapolis police said four people were discovered suffering gunshot wounds at the scene. One person died at the apartment building and another died after being taken to hospital, the department said.
The department also said two officers and two additional civilians were shot and brought to hospital with injuries. Officials have not publicly released further identities or the motive for the attack.

Court records and a building management complaint identify the suspected shooter as 35-year-old Carlton Johnson II, who lived on the ninth floor of Loring Tower, the records show.
The complaint says management moved to terminate Johnson’s lease after an assault on another resident, after he openly displayed a firearm and threatened to kill someone. The company later filed to evict him, and a hearing was scheduled.
Reporting by the station’s investigative unit found six separate disturbances involving Johnson dating back to January. Management at one point gave him a second chance under the condition he keep any firearm concealed on the premises.
It remains unclear from the records what prompted the company to proceed formally with eviction later that month. Local investigators and news outlets continue to seek additional details about Johnson’s background and the circumstances of the shooting.
