A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued by the National Weather Service for parts of the Eastern Plains until 10 p.m., covering Cheyenne, Elbert, Kit Carson, Lincoln, Logan, Morgan, Phillips, Sedgwick, Washington and Yuma counties, the agency said.

NWS forecasters warned the watch could produce several tornadoes, scattered egg sized hail and wind gusts up to 80 miles per hour, and urged residents in the watch area to remain alert and monitor conditions, the agency said.

The watch follows model guidance and observations that show an environment supportive of rotating storms and damaging straight line winds, NWS forecasters said, and the agency emphasized the potential for concentrated severe impacts across the watch area.
