Summary
  • Space Force provided SATCOM and PNT support during the raids
  • Guardians operated a 24/7 global sensor network for geolocation and missile warning
  • President Trump announced Maduro’s capture and plans to refine Venezuelan crude
  • Community views split over sovereignty, motives, and long term political change

Operation Absolute Resolve featured prominently in recent U.S. military actions, and Space Force leaders say guardians provided critical behind the scenes support during the raids.

Lt. Gen. Gregory Gagnon, commander of the Space Force’s Combat Forces Command, told DefenseScoop that operators distributed satellite communications and position, timing and navigation data to forces, prevented interference, and controlled elements of the electromagnetic spectrum to provide geolocation.

Officials described a global, 24/7 sensor network, with guardians in Colorado, Europe and Asia working crew positions that enabled what Gagnon called the high ground for joint forces.

The Pentagon deployed over 100 aircraft and weapon systems for the two operations, and Space Force personnel detected retaliatory missile launches seconds after they began, Gagnon said, adding that Spacecom provided non kinetic effects to create an overhead pathway for troops.

Gagnon warned that the current posture leveraged years of investment against adversaries that lack robust space warfighting capabilities, and he urged more resources to prepare for fights with near peers.

He noted, as reported by him, that China’s aerospace force numbers far exceed the U.S. service and that the Space Force estimates it must grow substantially to meet demand, while also upgrading ground and on orbit sensors including GSSAP additions, research payloads for Space Delta 9, and modernized optical and radar systems.

Community Reaction And Political Consequences

President Donald Trump announced the capture of Nicolas Maduro in the operation and framed the action around narcoterrorism and drug trafficking charges, and he said the United States will extract and refine Venezuelan crude, up to 50 million barrels indefinitely.

Reactions in the community were mixed. Foreign Policy teacher Adam Yonkers said the removal raises concerns about sovereignty and precedent, and he suggested oil reserves motivated the action rather than focus on citizens.

Student Maria Uribe said she welcomed Maduro’s removal, calling him authoritarian and saying the action gave Venezuelans hope, while student Neel Satyavolu said the capture alone will not change underlying power structures.

The reporting also recounted that opposing leader Maria Corina Machado went into hiding following contested elections before emerging after a U.S. backed extraction and receiving a Nobel Peace Prize, and that Machado presented her prize to President Trump in recognition of his role.
