Summary
  • A 2024 Game Freak data breach produced the gigaleak of Winds and Waves files
  • Leaked materials described an Indonesia inspired open world with weather driven mechanics
  • Official starters confirmed as Browt, Pombon and Gecqua via Pokémon press site
  • Fans continue to discover and collate leaked files into early 2026

Pokemon Winds and Waves were officially introduced on Feb. 27 during the franchise’s 30th anniversary, and the reveal confirmed many big picture elements that fans had already seen in a large October 2025 leak.

The leak followed a 2024 data breach at Game Freak, a breach fans called the gigaleak, and it contained concept art, handwritten design notes, budget breakdowns and plans for unannounced games, as reported by accounts that shared the material.

According to the leaked materials, the next generation was described as a near–endless open world inspired by Indonesia and southeast Asia, featuring islands, jungles and underwater regions, and with weather systems tied to legendary Pokémon and new in‑game technology.

Many of those elements appear in the Winds and Waves trailer, which emphasizes tropical wilderness exploration and weather effects, although the trailer did not show every detail the leak described.

Leaked files were detailed enough to include water physics demos and two logos named Winds and Waves, and fans continued to find materials for months after the initial October 2025 posting, with some files still discovered as recently as February 2026.

Starters, Leak Matches, And Ongoing Discovery

The official starter trio revealed in the trailer are Browt, Pombon and Gecqua, and the Pokémon press site provided their categories, types, heights, weights and abilities, offering the first confirmed roster for Generation 10.

Per the press site, Browt is the Bean Chick Pokémon, a grass type, measuring 1 foot and weighing 7.7 pounds with the Overgrow ability. Pombon is the Puppy Pokémon, a fire type, 1 foot 4 inches tall, 14.8 pounds, and has Blaze. Gecqua is the Water Gecko Pokémon, a water type, 1 foot tall, 9.5 pounds, and has Torrent.

Fans earlier pointed to starter descriptions in the leak, including a 4Chan post that described appearance traits which later aligned uncannily with the official designs, and community collations showed leaked scenes that matched the final trailer.

The leak also included a proposed full map and numerous internal documents that may clarify or contradict elements like procedural generation, and many leaked images have since been removed from the internet by copyright claims.
