pokemon winds and waves was revealed during Friday's Pokémon Presents stream as part of the franchise's 30th anniversary, and it introduced Generation 10's starter trio Browt, Pombon and Gecqua.

The Pokémon press site supplied official entries for each starter. Browt is a Grass type called the Bean Chick Pokémon, standing 1 foot tall and weighing 7.7 pounds with the Overgrow ability. Pombon is a Fire type Puppy Pokémon at 1 foot 4 inches and 14.8 pounds with the Blaze ability. Gecqua is a Water type Water Gecko Pokémon, 1 foot tall and 9.5 pounds with the Torrent ability.

The announcement confirmed Winds and Waves will follow recent entries by offering an open world where Pokémon roam. Trainers will encounter creatures across volcanic caves, glistening oceans and thick jungles, and will team up with Pokémon to overcome natural obstacles, the Pokémon news post said.

Pokémon Winds and Waves are expected in 2027 and are slated as exclusives for Nintendo Switch 2. IGN reported that Game Freak is developing the titles exclusively for that platform and that the two releases will come together as the 10th generation of Pokémon games.

World Design Visuals And Trailer Details

The first trailer presented a string of islands with diverse locales, including dense jungles, a futuristic resort with water flumes, mangrove swamps, submerged coral reefs and lava-filled caves, an IGN report described. The presentation suggested underwater gameplay and broad ocean travel across the archipelago.

The teaser also included a pair of themed Pikachu who resemble vacationing tourists. IGN reported these characters are officially named Mr. Windychu and Ms. Wavychu, and The Pokémon Company wrote on social media, "Just how could these Pikachu be involved in your adventure?"

The reveal returned repeatedly to the region's ecosystems. As the Pokémon news site put it, the creatures living in the region have developed unique ecosystems, and many Pokémon will assist players to overcome both the road ahead and forces of nature that block progress at times.

IGN placed the announcement in context by noting that the series' ninth generation introduced open exploration elements in 2022 and that last year's leaks had suggested islands and procedurally generated areas. The Winds and Waves titles were presented as a response to ongoing fan interest in the series' visuals and world scale.
