Global Themes And Student Guidance

The International Women's Day campaign has introduced the theme Give to Gain, and the United Nations has called for Rights. Justice. Action. For All Women and Girls.

As reported by the World Bank and UN Women, women worldwide hold only 64% of the legal rights that men do, a figure central to this year's debate.

The coverage highlights a persistent justice gap where laws exist but enforcement fails, and notes that in more than 40% of countries pursuing a legal case can require significant resources and time.

The reporting also flags digital abuse as a growing challenge, including deepfake and manipulated media harms, and urges modernising legal frameworks to address online threats.

Action priorities highlighted include removing structural workplace barriers, funding organisations that prevent violence, and updating legal systems for digital harassment and climate displacement.

Schools marking the day are encouraged to include speeches and programmes; sample short and long speech formats and tips such as speaking clearly, adding examples, and practising beforehand are provided for students.
