Adam Joseph has been named chief meteorologist for Action News at 6abc, the station announced after a primetime tease from the meteorologist on social media.

WPVI‑TV said Joseph will succeed Cecily Tynan, who retired earlier this year, and quoted general manager John W. Morris praising Joseph as a "beloved figure" and a clear choice for the role.

Joseph had invited viewers to an announcement in an X post that read "ANNOUNCEMENT AT 6PM" and reflected on more than 27 years in the profession, a tweet reported by a Philadelphia writer ahead of the station confirmation.

Background Experience And Station Role

A 20‑year Action News veteran, Joseph joined 6abc in 2005 and most recently served as weekday senior meteorologist for the 4 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts, the station said.

Before arriving at WPVI‑TV he was chief meteorologist at WBOY‑TV in Clarksburg, West Virginia, and worked at WSAZ‑TV in Charleston‑Huntington, where he earned the AMS Seal of Approval for Television and multiple meteorology awards.

Station coverage and biographical material list several honors, including Philadelphia Magazine's Best Meteorologist in 2009 and a Philadelphia Business Journal 40 Under 40 Award in 2011, plus repeated Best On‑Air Meteorologist recognitions from Main Line Today.

WPVI‑TV noted Joseph's community involvement with Hospice and the American Cancer Society and highlighted his athletic pursuits, including numerous triathlons and a half‑Ironman that fulfilled a long‑held goal.

The station also described personal details, saying Joseph holds a Bachelor of Science from Lyndon State College and lives in the Philadelphia suburbs with his husband Karl and their two children.

Beyond forecasting, the profile said Joseph has contributed to station specials and national appearances and aspires to publish a cookbook and host a cooking and gardening show.

The promotion positions Joseph as the primary weather voice for Action News, a continuity the station framed as both a nod to his tenure and a move to keep a trusted meteorologist prominent for viewers.
