T-Mobile has expanded through a string of acquisitions, including the MetroPCS reverse takeover in 2013, the Sprint merger completed in 2020, the Mint Mobile and Ultra Mobile deals in 2024, and the purchase of UScellular wireless operations which closed on August 1, 2025, according to company announcements.

The company described a multi‑layer 5G rollout using low, mid, and high bands, branded as Extended Range 5G and Ultra Capacity 5G, and it said on August 4, 2020 it launched standalone 5G nationwide to operate without reliance on LTE. T-Mobile's consumer-facing Experience Beyond language states a 5‑Year Price Guarantee for eligible fixed‑wireless 5G internet plans, while excluding taxes, fees, voluntary upgrades, future wireless generations and select promotions according to the provider's published terms. The plan terms note a US$35 device connection charge due at sale and regulatory and telco recovery fees totaling up to US$3.99 per line.

The Experience Beyond disclosures describe promotional media offers and limits, including Apple TV+ for qualifying lines, Netflix Standard with ads as an account offer, and complimentary Hulu (With Ads) for eligible customers, each subject to registration steps and one offer per account rules.

On usage limits, T-Mobile's posted terms state tethering receives 250 GB of high‑speed data per month before speeds fall to a 3G maximum, and that smartphone and tablet traffic is prioritized over mobile hotspot usage. The company also warns network management, misuse, or excessive roaming may lead to slowed or restricted service.

T-Mobile has faced regulatory and security scrutiny. The company confirmed a major data breach on August 16, 2021 affecting millions of former applicants and postpaid customers, and it offered two years of identity protection services while urging PIN changes.
