The National Weather Service in Pueblo has alerted residents to an impending freeze threat covering portions of El Paso and Kiowa counties.
The agency issued both a Freeze Warning and a Freeze Watch for higher and lower elevations in the warning area, characterizing the situation as severe with possible certainty of subfreezing conditions, according to NWS Pueblo CO.
The Freeze Warning covers overnight hours into the morning, with temperatures expected in the upper 20s to lower 30s in the most impacted zones. The Freeze Watch extends into the following nights, where readings could fall into the mid 20s to around 30 degrees.
Geographic areas named in the NWS product include northern El Paso County around Monument Ridge and Rampart Range below seven thousand five hundred feet and the Colorado Springs vicinity and southern El Paso County below seven thousand four hundred feet. Western and eastern portions of Kiowa County are also under advisory.
Impacts Risks And Recommended Actions
NWS Pueblo CO warned that frost and freeze conditions could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation and could possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing. The forecast agency said the coldest conditions are expected late in the week and may bring an end to the local growing season if subfreezing temperatures persist.
Officials recommended immediate protective steps for tender plants and exposed irrigation. The NWS advised wrapping or draining outdoor pipes or allowing them to drip slowly to reduce the risk of freezing and bursting, and urged residents to prepare now for overnight freezes.
The advisory emphasizes that prolonged subfreezing nights would amplify agricultural and infrastructure impacts. Residents, gardeners and farmers were directed to follow the guidance in the NWS product and monitor local forecast updates for changes.
