Multiple dog food recall notices have emerged after separate safety tests and company investigations identified salmonella, listeria and potential sharp foreign material in different products. Connecticut based Oma's Pride recalled a single lot of its raw Woof Complete Canine Chicken Recipe after the FDA tested a consumer sample that returned positive for salmonella, the company said. Oma's Pride said 639 bags were included and that the product was distributed to retailers, wholesalers and online customers in 11 states.
Mars Petcare US, Inc. said it is voluntarily recalling two lots of PEDIGREE Can High Protein Chopped Chicken and Duck 13.2oz after those lots were fraudulently diverted from a third party and sold into the marketplace. Mars said the affected cans may contain hard, sharp metal and plastic and provided two lot codes for identification. The company said no related pet illnesses have been reported to date and that it is working with authorities to trace how the product entered commerce.
Raaw Energy expanded a prior recall for a broad set of frozen raw formulas after state testing identified Listeria monocytogenes in some finished product samples, the company said. Raaw Energy listed many production date codes and product flavors and asked customers in its distribution region to treat those products as potentially contaminated. The firm said it will pause production, upgrade sanitation and testing, and purchase a pathogen detection system to test every batch moving forward.
Risks, Advice And Industry Response
Companies and regulators warned of health risks to pets and people from contaminated products. The FDA noted that pets with salmonella may show lethargy, diarrhea, fever or vomiting and can act as carriers. The Raaw advisory and company statements warned that Listeria infections in people can range from gastrointestinal symptoms to severe invasive illness, with higher risk for pregnant women, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems.
Consumers were told to stop feeding affected products, safely discard them and contact manufacturers for refunds or replacements. Mars asked consumers to contact PEDIGREE Consumer Care and Oma's Pride asked customers to contact the company for refunds. Owners whose pets show symptoms after eating recalled food were urged to consult their veterinarian. The FDA and state agriculture laboratories are continuing sampling and traceback work.
Industry observers say the cluster of actions underscores challenges in raw and processed pet food safety. Several other recent recalls and advisories cited low thiamine in select frozen brands, excess vitamin D in milk replacers and possible salmonella in raw frozen and freeze dried pet foods, showing multiple risk vectors across product types. Manufacturers described corrective steps such as deeper sanitation, enhanced screening and greater traceability to prevent recurrence.
