New York's knicks parade will follow the Knicks' championship in San Antonio. The team clinched the best-of-seven series 4-1 against the San Antonio Spurs, ending a 53-year wait for a third NBA title, as reported by The Associated Press.

Thousands of fans filled streets near Madison Square Garden and Times Square after the final buzzer, jumping and chanting and creating raucous scenes, The Associated Press reported. Police officers and ambulance workers in Brooklyn were heard using loudspeakers to urge the crowd on, the report said.

The New York City Police Department said disturbances turned violent, and that it made 63 arrests while 10 NYPD members were injured, including one officer punched and another struck with a glass bottle. The NYPD said a 17-year-old was shot and taken to hospital, with three persons of interest in custody. The department said five school buses were set on fire or destroyed and five NYPD cars were damaged. Police reported gunfire near 42nd Street and Broadway with preliminary reports indicating no injuries.

Knicks owner James Dolan issued a public appeal after the game in San Antonio, asking fans to stay safe and avoid hurting themselves or others. In San Antonio, Spike Lee, Timothée Chalamet and Ben Stiller joined court celebrations. Chalamet told ESPN, "Way rather this than the Oscars. Knicks are champions, baby." Stiller told the network he was the "happiest I've ever felt." The Associated Press contributed that reporting, and President Donald Trump posted congratulations on Truth Social calling the victory "maybe the greatest in the history of basketball."

Parade Plans And Route

According to New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, the city will host a ticker-tape parade on Thursday, June 18, and hold a City Hall ceremony honoring the team. The mayor also announced the team will be awarded keys to the city on Thursday, as officials prepare the celebration.

The parade route traditionally runs up the "Canyon of Heroes" beginning at Battery Park and proceeding up Broadway to City Hall in the Financial District. The Sporting News noted the route is the original ticker-tape parade corridor. The Sporting News added that the last team to receive a championship parade on the route was the New York Liberty in 2024, and that the U.S. Women's National Team used the route after 2019; the last men's team parade came with the New York Giants in 2012 and the New York Yankees in 2009.
