Apple used WWDC 2026 to roll out iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and a rebuilt Siri experience branded Siri AI, positioning software refinement and battery and stability gains ahead of sweeping visual redesigns.
Craig Federighi and other Apple presenters described the release as an optimization-first update, likened by engineers to a "Snow Leopard" pass, with core bug fixes and efficiency work paired with targeted user-facing changes.
The headline interface change is the Search or Ask panel, which now opens from a swipe down from the center of the display and launches a typing-first AI search bar that can query app contents, trigger shortcuts or accept text instructions for Siri AI.
Apple relocated system notifications to a swipe down from the top left of the screen and adjusted its Liquid Glass design language to improve readability with a Dynamic Transparency Slider, refracted icon assets and smaller, uniform toolbars.
Other iOS 27 additions include a Camera Widget Tray for persistent camera controls and macro triggers, built-in Apple Wallet bill splitting, and foldable code optimizations aimed at split and continuous views for rumored new hardware.
Apple said Siri AI will appear in a dedicated Siri app on iPhone, iPad and Mac with conversation history synced via iCloud, and the company described Siri AI as "an entirely new version of Siri deeply integrated into iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Apple Vision Pro."
Implications Reactions And Compatibility
Apple tied Siri AI to Google’s Gemini models and to new Apple Intelligence features that can run on device or on Private Cloud Compute, according to Craig Federighi, while emphasizing privacy controls for cloud use.
The company said Siri AI will be available initially in English and will require an iPhone 15 Pro or newer to run on iPhone hardware, with developer betas released now and public betas coming in July, Apple added.
Coverage noted Siri dominated the keynote, with presenters mentioning it repeatedly, and reviewers highlighted new Visual Intelligence features that let Siri answer questions about objects seen through Vision Pro and other screens.
Apple also introduced expanded child account protections, content filtering and daily limits for certain Apple Intelligence features, with increased access tied to iCloud Plus tiers for some image generation and camera integrations.
Compatibility for iOS 27 largely matches the prior release, keeping the iPhone 11 as the baseline, while MacOS changes were presented under the Golden Gate name and included Liquid Glass tweaks for window corners and toolbars.
