Summary
  • Facebook outage forced many users to log out worldwide
  • Instagram displayed a generic error message during the outage
  • Facebook Messenger experienced disruptions while Threads and WhatsApp worked
  • Meta gave no immediate public comment but services later began returning

Facebook outage disrupted access to the platform and affected Instagram and Messenger, leaving many users logged out and unable to sign back in.

Widespread reports on other social platforms, as reported by Reddit, placed the start of the disruption shortly after 9:30 a.m. ET and 6:30 a.m. PT in the United States, and users reported problems around the globe.

Users said the Facebook app for iPhone erroneously prompted them to check their internet connection when attempting to log in, while Instagram displayed a generic error stating Sorry, something went wrong. We’re working on getting this fixed as soon as we can.

Facebook Messenger was also impacted by the outage, according to user reports, even as other Meta services such as Threads and WhatsApp appeared to operate normally during the disruption.

Impact And Response

Meta had not issued a public comment on the outages while they were ongoing, and there was no timetable for a fix reported during the early stages of the incident.

An update at 7:21 a.m. PT noted the platforms remained offline with no update from Meta, while a later update at 8:12 a.m. PT said Facebook and Instagram were slowly coming back online as it appeared Meta had resolved the outage.

The interruption affected two of Meta’s largest social platforms and generated widespread user reports and discussion on other social networks as people sought confirmation and workarounds.
