Summary
  • End to end encrypted RCS messaging now available in beta
  • Maps adds Suggested Places based on trends and searches
  • Pride Luminance wallpapers and Inuktitut keyboard support added
  • EU wearables gain AirPods style pairing and Apple recycling discount

Apple's latest software release arrives with targeted refinements across messaging, Maps, and device interoperability, and the apple ios 26.5 update is rolling out now for compatible iPhones, as reported by coverage edited by Mudassir Kamran.

The update introduces end to end encrypted RCS messaging between iPhone and Android devices, with messages, photos, and videos protected during transit and conversations marked by a lock icon in Messages, according to reporting edited by Mudassir Kamran.

Encrypted RCS remains in beta and requires supported carriers plus the latest Google Messages build on Android, the report said, and Apple is rolling the feature out over time.

Maps gains a Suggested Places section that surfaces restaurants, cafés, shops, and other nearby locations based on trending spots, recent searches, and user activity, the update notes as described in the same report.

Apple also shipped Pride Luminance wallpapers with dynamic rainbow inspired patterns, customizable color options, and animated lighting effects, matching a Pride Edition watch band and a new Pride Luminance watch face, as reported by Mudassir Kamran.

Apple added more granular controls for iPhone to Android data transfers, letting users choose whether to move all message attachments or only media from the past 30 days or the past year, a change intended to speed migrations and reduce storage use.

Small but notable additions include references in Apple Books to a potential internal Awards feature, support for the Inuktitut keyboard layout, and new App Store APIs that let developers offer special subscription pricing and long term billing plans, the reporting said.

Security was a focus, with Apple patching more than 50 vulnerabilities tied to WebKit, Spotlight, screenshots, and kernel level processes, and users are advised to update via Settings General Software Update, as noted by coverage that cited MacRumors.

EU Wearable Interoperability And Retail Recycling Offer

Apple expanded third party wearable support in the European Union, enabling features previously limited to Apple accessories, such as AirPods style proximity pairing, notification forwarding, and Live Activities syncing on compatible devices, a report by Hartley Charlton said.

Those changes form part of Apple’s compliance with the EU Digital Markets Act, according to the overview edited by Mudassir Kamran, and availability may vary by region and device model, MacRumors reporting added.

Separately, Apple offered a recycling promotion reported by Hartley Charlton, providing 10 percent off AirPods, Beats, or accessories when customers recycle an eligible iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, or Mac at a participating Apple Store and complete purchase and recycling in the same transaction.

That promotion runs from April 16 through May 16 and requires device screening at the store, Hartley Charlton reported, with the discount applying only when both recycling and purchase occur together.
